Far Cry 7 story details leak with only 24 hours to beat the game
More information has leaked about Far Cry 7, which supposedly gives you only a set time limit to rescue your kidnapped family.
Although 2021’s Far Cry 6 seemed to underperform, there was still never any doubt about a new game following along at some point, even if there is a slightly longer gap between entries than usual.
Earlier rumours claimed that the next Far Cry would be a live service game, something Ubisoft is still very keen on, but they may be a separated title as the latest suggestion is that Far Cry 7 is a relatively traditional sequel, that’s aiming for an autumn 2025 release.
The new game is allegedly codenamed Project Blackbird and is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal, with a ‘non-linear’ story that centres around rescuing the player character’s wealthy family, who have been kidnapped by a ‘conspiracy group’ called the Sons of Truth.
That doesn’t sound especially remarkable but apparently the current idea is that you only have 72 in-game hours (about 24 hours in real-time) to rescue them, before it becomes impossible to help them all.
Some family members can apparently be killed before the end of the time limit, creating a dynamic storyline where it’s difficult to help them all.
The information comes from the usually reliable Tom Henderson, but there are few specifics about either the story or the gameplay. Although he does describe a new interrogation mechanic, which can see an enemy lying, escaping or simply not saying anything.
Despite this information there’s nothing about the setting of the game, which is always the most important thing about a new Far Cry, or when it might be officially announced – although the only likely venue left for that this year is The Game Awards in December.
If you’re desperate for more Far Cry then this December also sees the release of Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora, which seems to be very similar in concept. Although it’s by The Division developer Massive Entertainment, and not anyone directly connected to Far Cry.
