Hulk Hogan- The Sensation That Is “Hulkamania”

Enter The Hulk! There are not many wrestling icons that shift careers back and forth and make a legacy out of it. Terry Gene Bollea AKA Hulk Hogan is one of them. Born on August 11, 1953, in Georgia, Hogan had a destiny that aimed for the stars.

Terry always had an interest in wrestling, and he further nurtured the passion during high school. He gained his education at the Hillsborough Community College and then later on from the University of South Florida. Hogan could never actually finish his education because his mindset was always fixated on wrestling. In order to pursue that passion, Hulk joined the local gym which was owned by brothers Jack and Jerry Brisco.

Astonished by his performance, the brothers motivated him to perform even further. Hulk started wrestling in small circuits in the Southeast and that is where he honed his skills. It was in 1979 when his hard work paid off and he was noticed by Vincent McMahon- The promoter of the World Wrestling Federation. McMahon gave Terry a chance to join the WWF and he accepted.

Upon joining the WWF he had to adopt a new identity, and because of his massive physique and uncanny resemblance to the Marvel Comics character “Hulk”, he took the advice of McMahon and adopted the stage name of Hulk Hogan.

To test his wits and strength, Hulk Hogan was pitted against Andre the Giant in 1980. Hogan won the match, alongside the hearts of fans all over the country. It is after that, he caught the attention of Sylvester Stallone who actually cast him in his movie Rocky 3.

I feel really good right now. It will really be a tough decision. It’s so hard to give up what you love doing. Hanging up the boots will not be an easy thing to do.

I promised each and every Hulkamaniac when I went to that great battlefield in the sky I would bring the WWF title with me.

I quit doing the movies because the wrestling was going so good and was so on fire during the ’80s and ’90s, but I was getting all these movie scripts.

If I do hit that rope and do a hop, skip, and a jump and get up as high as I can, I’m just going to hold my breath, because I know I’m going to hear all kinds of scar tissue popping.

If I have a problem with someone I talk about them. I don’t pick on their kids.

I’m really critical of myself and if I take the bandana off my head I’m completely bald-headed and go from being 58 to looking 68 instantly.

I’ve always felt from everyone I talk to that the fans feel like I’m tangible and they can talk to me and they know me.

I love to give the fans what they want. They’re what I miss most when I’m not

I’ve been around so long and no matter if I’ve done good things or bad things, or my personal life has been good or bad, the fans have always stuck with me.

Nobody told me how to talk or think.

The best wrestlers, whether it’s a Hulk Hogan or a Rey Mysterio, are the ones who have psychology and can understand this business.

The leg drop was a move that nobody really used, and nobody ever hit the ropes and jumped up really high, so I tried it out in Japan and the people loved it. That’s how I came up with it.
