Hackers target Indian Prime Minister

The personal Twitter account of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been attacked by cybercriminals.

A brave hacker posted a tweet falsely claiming that India would adopt Bitcoin as its official currency (which you can now play with online at ビットカジノ in Japan).The lie didn’t end there because the threat actor continued by mistake state The Government of India will buy 500 Bitcoin tokens and will soon “distribute them to all residents of the country”.

At the end of the fake tweet was a link to a malicious website designed to appear to be part of Bitcoin’s huge freebie promotion.

Immediately after the misleading cryptocurrency tweet appeared, it was removed from the Prime Minister’s feed.

The fake tweet violated a late statement November India has no plans to recognize Bitcoin as its domestic currency, according to India’s finance minister, Nirmala Sisaraman.

Following the attack, the Prime Minister’s Office of India issued a tweet asking Modi’s Twitter followers to ignore the communications shared by the perpetrators.

Twitter spokesperson The Wall Street Journal Secured Modi’s account “as soon as I noticed this activity”. According to Twitter, no other account has been compromised in this incident.

The attack does not appear to have exploited a vulnerability in Twitter’s cybersecurity defenses, as the company states that the IT system was not compromised in the incident.

The identity of the hacker is currently unknown. An investigation into Twitter hacking was initiated by Indian police.
