THE WOMAN KING tells the story of an all-female squad in a West African kingdom. The year is 1823. In the Kingdom of Dahomey, King Gezo (John Boyega) recruits the services of the Agozier, an all-female warrior group led by General Naniska (Viola Davis).they coexist peacefully…The neighboring Oyo Empire. However, this peace is threatened when slave traders from the Oyo Empire attempt to enslave Dahomean women. Nancya and her team rescue them. Angered by this development, King Gezo decides to wage an all-out war against Oyo, despite the neighboring kingdoms being larger and more powerful. Nancy also begins training new warriors, one of whom is Nawi (Tusombedu). She was offered to her king by her father after she refused to marry a man of her father’s choosing. Although she Nawi is perceived as arrogant, she wins the trust of Izogi (Rashana Lynch), a veteran Agojie and Nanshika. The latter realizes she has a strong connection with Nawi. What happens next forms the rest of the movie.
