Here are the three instances when you should avoid brushing your teeth, as advised by a dentist

Here are the three instances when it’s not advisable to brush your teeth, as highlighted by British dentist Dr. Shaadi Manouchehri on TikTok:

Dr. Shaadi Manouchehri has identified three situations when it’s not a good idea to brush your teeth.

She advises against brushing your teeth immediately after vomiting. Despite this being a common reflex, it’s not recommended. “The stomach’s contents are highly acidic, and teeth are mineral-based. Brushing immediately spreads the acid further into your teeth,” explains the dentist. Instead, she suggests waiting 30 to 60 minutes before brushing, and in the meantime, rinsing with mouthwash and drinking water can help neutralize the acid.

She also advises against brushing your teeth right after drinking coffee. “Coffee, especially with milk and sugar, is acidic,” she points out. To protect your enamel, she recommends using mouthwash or rinsing with water immediately after coffee instead of brushing.

Lastly, Dr. Shaadi Manouchehri warns against brushing your teeth immediately after breakfast. “Brush your teeth before breakfast because brushing right after can damage your enamel,” she advises. In the morning, there’s a higher presence of bacteria in the mouth that needs to be cleaned before eating.
